Dancing Wind Big Bluestem

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 2–3 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Big bluestem is a native prairie grass that thrives in lean conditions- avoid rich or wet soils.

Water regularly the first season; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Cut back to 4–6 inches in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Do not cut back in fall- the tall stems, seed heads, and warm fall color provide exceptional winter structure and wildlife habitat. Divide every 4–5 years in spring. No fertilization needed. Largely pest-free. A stately, upright native grass with excellent adaptability to difficult, dry sites.
