Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist to wet soil in partial shade, spacing 18–24 inches apart. Tussock sedge is a native plant that forms distinctive, elevated clumps or tussocks and thrives in wet, boggy conditions near ponds, streams, and rain gardens. No soil amendment is needed. Water well after planting. It establishes readily in appropriate moist to wet conditions.

Care Tips

Very little maintenance is required once established. The distinctive tussock growth habit provides excellent structure and wildlife habitat value. No pruning or fertilizing is needed. Tussock sedge is an outstanding native plant for wet, challenging sites where it provides ecological benefits including erosion control, water filtration, and wildlife cover. An important structural element for naturalistic rain gardens and pond edges.
