Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained to dry soil. Space 12–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. This native grass thrives in lean, dry, sandy conditions.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Cut back to a few inches in early spring before new growth emerges. No fertilization needed- lean soil produces the best growth. Largely pest-free. The fine-textured, purple-tinged foliage and extraordinary haze of tiny purple-pink flowers in late summer create an almost cloud-like effect in the garden. The seed heads catch and scatter light beautifully. Allow to self-sow naturally in gravelly or sandy soil for a naturalistic planting.
