Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, moist to dry, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Highly adaptable to shade and dry conditions.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it tolerates moderate drought and dry shade well. Pinch stem tips back in late spring for a more compact, branching plant. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Watch for aster yellows- distorted growth indicates infection; remove and discard affected plants. The small, lavender-blue star flowers in fall are charming and provide valuable late-season nectar for pollinators. An excellent native aster for shaded settings.
