Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch generously to retain moisture.

Care Tips

Water consistently throughout the season- this fern prefers reliably moist conditions and will decline if allowed to dry out repeatedly. The red stems are most vivid with adequate moisture and some sun. Remove old or tattered fronds in early spring before new fiddleheads emerge. Divide clumps every 4–5 years in spring. No fertilization is generally needed in organically enriched soil, though a light spring application encourages lush growth. Largely pest-free.
