Persimmon Tree

Plant in well-drained, fertile soil amended with compost. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Space 15–20 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch well away from the trunk.

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons while establishing a strong root system; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Little pruning is needed- remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches in late winter. Fertilize lightly in early spring with a balanced fertilizer. The ornamental orange fruit hangs on the tree well into winter after the leaves drop, providing exceptional seasonal interest and food for wildlife. Largely pest- and disease-free.
