Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water consistently the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent blooms for continuous flowering from midsummer into fall, or leave seed heads for birds. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Watch for aster yellows. Largely otherwise pest-free. The rich, deep ruby-rose petals with a contrasting dark central cone are exceptionally vivid and long-lasting in the garden. An excellent coneflower for bold color in the late summer border.
