Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant with rhizomes at or just below the soil surface in moist to wet, slightly acidic soil. Space 12–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly and generously- northern blueflag is a native wetland iris that naturally grows in moist meadows and along stream banks. It also adapts to average garden soil with consistent moisture. Allow foliage to grow through summer after blooming. Cut back in late fall. Divide every 3–4 years in late summer. No fertilization generally needed. An excellent native plant for rain gardens, pond edges, and moist borders. The vivid violet-purple flowers with yellow and white markings in late spring are exceptionally beautiful.
