Fulgida Black Eyed Susan

Plant in average, well-drained soil. Space 18-24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly. Highly adaptable to clay and poor soils.

Water regularly the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous bloom from midsummer through fall, or leave seed heads for birds and winter interest. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Virtually pest- and disease-free. This species of black-eyed Susan is more reliably perennial than some others and spreads modestly by self-seeding to form naturalistic groupings over time.
