Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist to wet, average to fertile soil. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch generously. Tolerates poorly drained and wet soil conditions.

Care Tips

Water consistently and generously- this is a species that naturally grows in swampy, wet, and boggy conditions. Also adapts to average garden soil with consistent moisture. Blooms on new wood- cut back to 6 inches in early spring. Fertilize lightly in spring. The enormous, soft pink flowers can reach 8–12 inches across, among the largest flowers of any hardy perennial. Produced over a long season from midsummer through fall. Very late to emerge in spring. Outstanding for rain gardens, wet spots, and pond edges.
