Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 6–8 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water consistently after planting; once established it is quite adaptable. Common blue violet spreads readily by self-seeding and rhizomes to form naturalistic groundcover drifts- allow to naturalize in informal areas or remove seedlings and runners to control spread in more formal settings. The small, classic violet-blue flowers in spring are charming, and the plant is the host for several native fritillary butterfly species. Largely pest-free. An excellent native groundcover for shaded woodland and naturalistic garden settings.
