Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist, well-drained soil in partial shade, spacing 6–12 inches apart. Silver Gem violet produces attractive, silver-variegated foliage and small, delicate violet flowers. It spreads gradually to form a groundcover in shaded settings. Incorporate compost into the planting area and water well. Mulch lightly to retain moisture. Avoid hot, dry, or fully exposed sites.

Care Tips

Very little maintenance is required. Remove dead leaves in early spring. Divide when clumps become overcrowded to maintain vigor and control spread. Violets self-seed readily and naturalize over time in appropriate conditions. No fertilizing is needed in average soils. The silver-variegated foliage provides year-round interest in shaded settings. An easy, charming groundcover for woodland gardens and shaded borders.
