Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Space 15–25 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons. Once established it tolerates moderate drought. Little pruning is needed- remove dead or crossing branches in late spring after flowering. Fertilize lightly in spring. The white flowers in early spring are among the very first of any tree, often appearing alongside early daffodils. The sweet, blueberry-like fruit in June is excellent for birds and people alike. The vivid orange-red fall foliage and attractive gray bark provide year-round interest. Largely pest-free.
