Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained to wet, slightly acidic soil. Space 20–30 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch well away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly, especially during the first 2–3 seasons and dry periods. Once established it is adaptable and tolerates wet conditions remarkably well. Little pruning is needed- remove dead or crossing branches in late fall or early winter. River birch is more bronze birch borer resistant than other birches; keeping it healthy and well-watered further reduces risk. The beautiful, peeling, cinnamon-tan bark provides outstanding year-round interest. The fastest-growing and most adaptable native birch for landscape use.
