Vern's Brown Turkey Fig

Plant in well-drained, fertile soil amended with compost. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Space 10–15 feet apart or train against a warm wall for the best fruit production. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch generously around the base.

Water deeply and regularly, especially during fruit development. Once established it tolerates moderate drought but fruits best with consistent moisture. Prune in late winter to remove dead wood, crossing branches, and to shape. In colder climates, protect the roots with a heavy mulch layer before winter and consider wrapping stems if temperatures drop well below freezing. Fertilize lightly in spring- avoid excess nitrogen, which promotes foliage at the expense of fruit.
