Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring, spacing 24–30 inches apart in average, well-drained soil. False sunflower is easy to establish and adapts to a range of garden conditions. Water regularly for the first few weeks after planting, then reduce as the plant settles in. A light mulch helps through the first season. Choose a site where it has room to spread — it forms generous clumps over time.

Care Tips

Deadhead spent blooms throughout summer to extend the flowering season. Cut plants back to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide clumps every three to four years in spring to prevent overcrowding and maintain vigorous blooming. False sunflower is a reliable, easy perennial that provides bold yellow color in mid-to-late summer. No heavy fertilizing is needed.
