Plant in average, well-drained soil. Space 12–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly around the base.

Water regularly the first season; once established it is quite drought tolerant. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous bloom from midsummer through fall, or leave seed heads for birds. Cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Virtually pest- and disease-free. A compact, well-behaved black-eyed Susan that stays tidy without flopping- excellent for the front of a sunny border.
