Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil in partial shade, spacing 18–24 inches apart. Champion is a Gold Collection hellebore with exceptionally large, outward-facing flowers that show beautifully without needing to look under the plant. It blooms from midwinter through spring. Incorporate compost or leaf mold into the planting area. Water well and mulch generously.

Care Tips

Cut back old foliage to the ground in late fall or very early winter to showcase the emerging flowers and reduce leaf disease spread. Hellebores are long-lived and resent disturbance — choose the planting site carefully. They self-seed over time to naturalize. Fertilize lightly in spring. Keep soil consistently moist. All parts are toxic if ingested. Champion's large, outward-facing flowers are extraordinarily ornamental through winter and early spring.
