Earlybird® Purple Blue Columbine

Plant in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly. The Earlybird series blooms earlier than standard columbines, extending the spring season.

Water regularly during the first season and through spring bloom. Deadhead spent flowers to extend the bloom period, but allow some seed pods to mature for self-sowing- columbine self-seeds freely and seedlings appear nearby each year. Cut foliage back after it declines in summer. Divide every 3–4 years in early spring if clumps become overcrowded. Watch for leaf miners, which cause winding trails in leaves but rarely harm plant health seriously.
