Plant in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Water regularly during the first season and through spring bloom. Deadhead to extend bloom and allow some seed pods to drop for self-sowing. Cut foliage back as it declines in summer. Divide every 3–4 years in early spring. Watch for leaf miners. The warm red-and-yellow bicolor flowers are vivid and cheerful, with the complementary colors creating a striking, high-contrast display in the spring garden.
