Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist to wet, well-drained, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep to retain moisture.

Care Tips

Consistent and generous moisture is the most critical care requirement- astilbe will decline quickly in dry soil. Water deeply and regularly throughout the growing season and never allow the soil to dry out completely. Fertilize in spring and again after flowering with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Divide clumps every 3–4 years in spring or fall when the center begins to die out. Deadhead spent plumes for tidiness, or leave them as they dry to an attractive tan for winter interest.
