Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Space 24–30 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base to retain moisture.

Care Tips

Water consistently, especially during establishment and summer heat. This is a tough, semi-evergreen fern that is more heat and drought tolerant than many other woodland ferns once established. Remove old or tattered fronds in early spring before new growth emerges. No fertilization is generally needed in organically enriched soil. Divide in spring every 4–5 years if clumps become very large.
