Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in average, well-drained to moist soil, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Banana Daiquiri avens produces soft, warm yellow flowers with frilly petals from late spring through summer. It adapts to average conditions without special preparation. Water regularly for the first few weeks, then reduce as the plant becomes established. Good drainage is important — avoid wet soils.

Care Tips

Deadhead spent blooms regularly to keep new flowers forming through the long blooming season. Cut back by about one-third after the main bloom flush to encourage fresh growth and additional flowering. Divide every two to three years in spring to maintain vigor. Fertilize lightly in spring. The warm, soft yellow color and long bloom season make avens an excellent, underused perennial for the front of mixed sunny borders. Attractive to bees.
