Sum and Substance Hosta

Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 48–60 inches apart- this is one of the largest hostas available and needs significant room to reach its full, impressive size. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch generously.

Water deeply and consistently throughout the season. Slugs are less of a problem on this variety than many hostas- the thick, leathery leaves are more resistant. Cut back all foliage in late fall. Allow several years for the plant to reach its full size- it becomes more spectacular each year. Divide every 6–8 years in spring only if the clump becomes truly overcrowded. Fertilize lightly in spring. A true garden specimen that commands attention.
