Red Nancy Deadnettle

Plant in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Space 12–18 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly around the base.

Water consistently after planting; once established it tolerates moderate drought in shade. Shear the entire planting back by about half after the spring bloom flush to tidy the sprawling stems and encourage fresh, dense new growth. Without this occasional shearing, plants can become open and untidy over time. Divide every 3–4 years in spring or fall to control spread. Largely pest-free and deer resistant. Excellent weed-suppressing groundcover for shaded areas.
