Astra Blue Dwarf Balloon Flower

Plant in average, well-drained soil enriched with compost. Space 12–15 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Balloon flower is slow to emerge in spring- mark its location to avoid accidentally disturbing it.

Water regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong the bloom period- the inflated buds that pop open like balloons are part of the charm. Deadheading also prevents self-seeding, which can become excessive over time. Cut back to the ground in late fall. Do not divide or transplant once established- balloon flower has a deep taproot and resents disturbance. Largely pest-free. The vivid blue flowers are an outstanding color for a summer perennial.
