Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in moist, humus-rich soil in partial to full shade, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Native foamflower is one of the best woodland groundcovers, producing delicate, foamy spikes of white to pink flowers in spring and spreading to form a weed-suppressing mat over time. Work compost or leaf mold into the planting area. Water well and mulch to retain moisture.

Care Tips

Keep soil consistently moist. Remove spent flower spikes after bloom to keep the planting tidy. Foamflower spreads by stolons to fill in shaded areas — divide when clumps become overcrowded. No fertilizing is needed in organically rich soil. The maple-leaf-shaped foliage often develops attractive mottling or fall color. An outstanding native groundcover for shaded woodland gardens and under deciduous trees. Easy and rewarding.
