Fingerpaint Foamflower

Plant in spring or fall in moist, humus-rich soil in partial to full shade, spacing 12–18 inches apart. Fingerpaint foamflower is a hybrid between foamflower and coral bells with attractively mottled, dark-centered foliage and frothy flower spikes in spring. It spreads to form a dense, attractive groundcover in shaded settings. Incorporate compost into the planting area and water well. Mulch to retain moisture.

Remove old foliage in early spring before new growth and flower spikes emerge. Keep soil consistently moist. Divide every three to four years in spring to manage spread. Fertilize lightly in spring. The distinctive, dark-centered, mottled foliage provides all-season interest in the shade garden beyond the spring flowers. An excellent, low-maintenance groundcover for shaded areas under deciduous trees and in woodland garden settings.
