Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep.

Care Tips

Water consistently throughout the season- astilbe requires reliable moisture and declines quickly in dry soil. This is the most critical care requirement. Deadhead spent flower plumes to tidy the plant, or leave them through winter for ornamental interest. Cut to the ground in late fall or early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring when the clump becomes crowded. Fertilize lightly in spring. The dramatically dark foliage of this selection provides outstanding contrast even when not in bloom. Largely pest-free.
