Plant in moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Water consistently after planting; moderately drought tolerant once established. Trim tattered foliage in early spring. Divide every 3–4 years in spring. Fertilize lightly in spring.
