Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 18–24 inches apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Thrives in lean conditions.

Water regularly the first season; once established it is highly drought tolerant. Cut back to 4–6 inches in late winter or early spring- do not cut back in fall. Divide every 3–5 years in spring. No fertilization needed. Brush Stroke is selected for a particularly wide, bold, upright form with vivid color that transitions from blue-green in summer through warm orange and copper in fall- the broad foliage plumes create a bold, brushstroke-like presence in the landscape. Largely pest-free.
