Plant in moist, well-drained soil. Provide a very sturdy support structure- pergola, strong trellis, or arbor. Space 10–15 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting. Plant both male and female plants for fruit production- one male can pollinate several females.

Water deeply and regularly the first two seasons; once established it tolerates moderate drought. Prune hard in late winter to control the vigorous growth and shape the plant- kiwi vines are very vigorous and will cover structures extensively without regular pruning. Fertilize lightly in spring. The small, smooth-skinned kiwi fruits are produced in abundance on female plants in late summer and can be eaten without peeling. Largely pest-free and deer resistant once established.
