Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil amended with compost. Space 15–25 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons while establishing; once established it is moderately drought tolerant. Little pruning is needed- remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches in late winter. Fertilize lightly in spring. The white flowers in early spring, edible berries in early summer that attract birds, and brilliant orange-red fall foliage make this a superb four-season native small tree. Largely pest- and disease-free.
