Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0) with generous organic matter. Space 6–10 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the crown.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently. Flame azalea is a native deciduous species that naturally grows in moist mountain woodland settings. Prune lightly immediately after flowering. Fertilize in spring with an acid azalea fertilizer. The wild-colored, flame-orange to yellow flowers in late spring are among the most vivid of any native plant- truly spectacular in bloom. Largely pest-free when sited correctly with acidic, organic, well-drained soil. One of the most striking native azaleas in eastern North America.
