Pristine white flowers blanket this evergreen in mid-spring, dense enough to hide the foliage completely. Rhododendron 'Delaware Valley White' grows 2 to 3 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide in full sun to part sun, hardy from Zone 6 through Zone 8.
The habit spreads noticeably wider than tall, which makes it a good low hedge, foundation planting, or mass planting along a walk. It keeps widening with age, so space plants four feet apart rather than crowding them.
The small glossy leaves hold through winter, so the shrub carries a bed year-round rather than going bare.
This is one of the more heat-tolerant white azaleas, holding up in southern summers where others scorch. Acidic soil is necessary, roughly pH 4.5 to 6.0, with good drainage and steady moisture. Mulch the shallow roots.
