Girard's Crimson Azalea

Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0) amended with peat moss or compost. Space 4–5 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch generously to retain moisture and maintain soil acidity.

Water deeply and consistently throughout the season, especially during dry spells. Prune only immediately after flowering to avoid removing next year's flower buds. Fertilize in early spring with an acid-specific azalea fertilizer. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can cause soft, weak growth. Monitor for lace bugs, which cause a stippled, bleached look on foliage. Generally a tough, reliable variety with good cold hardiness.
