Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0) with generous organic matter. Space 5–8 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the crown.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently, especially during the first season and summer dry spells. This is a native deciduous azalea that blooms before or with the emerging leaves- the soft pink to white flowers are exceptionally fragrant. Prune lightly immediately after flowering to preserve next year's flower buds. Fertilize in spring with an acid azalea fertilizer. Monitor for lace bugs in summer. The native species is highly adaptable and more tolerant of wet conditions than many non-native azaleas.
