Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Space 12–20 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep, keeping mulch away from the trunk.

Care Tips

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons while establishing- white fringetree is slow to establish but long-lived once settled. Once established it tolerates moderate drought. Little pruning is needed- remove dead or crossing branches in late spring after flowering. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. White fringetree is one of the last trees to leaf out in spring, so do not assume it has died if it is slow to show growth. The extraordinary, fringe-like white flowers in late spring are among the most beautiful of any native tree. Largely pest-free.
