Hummingbird Summersweet

Plant in moist, well-drained to wet, acidic soil amended with organic matter. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep.

Water consistently, especially during dry spells- summersweet prefers moist conditions but tolerates brief drought once established. Little pruning is needed to maintain its naturally compact, tidy habit. Remove a few of the oldest stems at the base after flowering if desired to encourage fresh new growth. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. The fragrant white flower spikes in summer are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. Largely pest- and disease-free.
