Cornelian cherry dogwood

Plant in spring or fall in average to moist, well-drained soil. Space 15–25 feet apart, or closer if using as a hedge. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep around the base, keeping mulch away from the trunk.

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons while establishing; once established it is moderately drought tolerant. Prune after flowering in late winter or early spring if shaping is needed. Little maintenance is required once established- this is a tough, long-lived tree. Fertilize lightly in spring. The early yellow flowers in late winter are a welcome sight, and the red fruit in summer attracts birds. Largely pest-free.
