Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, moist to dry, well-drained soil. Space 8–10 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established it is highly drought tolerant and adaptable to a very wide range of soils including clay, sand, and dry shade. This native dogwood spreads by suckering to form colonies- remove suckers to control spread, or allow to naturalize. Prune out the oldest canes at the base in early spring to encourage vigorous new growth. The clusters of white flowers in spring, white berries in summer, and vivid fall foliage color make this a multi-season native shrub. Largely pest-free.
