Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly.

Care Tips

Water deeply and consistently throughout the growing season- hibiscus is a thirsty plant that performs poorly in dry soil. Hardy hibiscus blooms on new wood- cut back to within 6 inches of the ground in early spring before new growth begins. This annual hard pruning is essential. Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer in spring and again in midsummer. Hardy hibiscus is one of the last perennials to emerge in spring- do not assume it has died before growth appears. The enormous, dinner-plate-sized red flowers are spectacular in late summer.
