Nikko Blue Hydrangea

Plant in moist, well-drained, acidic soil (pH 5.5–6.5) enriched with organic matter. Space 4–6 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep.

Water deeply and consistently throughout the season- bigleaf hydrangeas are among the most water-demanding shrubs. Flower color depends on soil pH- acidic soil (pH below 6.0) produces blue flowers, while alkaline soil produces pink. Prune only lightly immediately after flowering, as this variety blooms on old wood and heavy pruning removes next year's flower buds. Protect from late spring frost which can kill flower buds. Fertilize in spring with an acid fertilizer.
