Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained to wet, acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0). Space 3–4 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep.

Care Tips

Water consistently and generously- inkberry thrives with reliable moisture and tolerates wet, poorly drained conditions. For the best compact form, prune out one-third of the oldest stems at the base in early spring each year. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. Densa is a particularly compact, dense selection with a naturally tidy, rounded form that requires minimal pruning. The glossy, dark green evergreen foliage and glossy black berries in fall are attractive and excellent for birds. Largely pest-free.
