Planting Tips

Plant in moist, well-drained to wet, acidic soil (pH 4.5–6.0). Space 4–5 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 2–3 inches deep.

Care Tips

Water consistently and generously- inkberry is a native wetland plant that thrives with reliable moisture and tolerates wet, poorly drained conditions. For the best form, prune out one-third of the oldest stems at the base in early spring each year. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. Plant male and female plants for berry production. The glossy black berries in fall are excellent for birds. Forever Emerald® is an especially dense, compact selection with excellent evergreen foliage. Largely pest-free.
