Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in well-drained to dry soil in full sun, spacing 3–4 feet apart. Blue Chip is a low-growing, spreading juniper with outstanding silvery-blue foliage that turns attractive purple-lavender tones in winter. It adapts to poor, dry, and rocky soils and is excellent for slopes, banks, and groundcover use. Dig the planting hole to the same depth as the root ball and water well.

Care Tips

Minimal pruning is needed beyond removing any dead branches. Blue Chip spreads steadily to cover an area — space and place accordingly. Very drought tolerant once established. No regular fertilizing needed in average soils. The silvery-blue summer foliage and purple-lavender winter color make Blue Chip one of the most ornamental creeping junipers available. Excellent for slopes, dry banks, and groundcover use in hot, sunny, difficult sites.
