Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in average to lean, well-drained soil. Space 6–8 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch lightly around the base.

Care Tips

Water regularly after planting; once established eastern red cedar is one of the most drought-tolerant conifers available and is extremely adaptable to poor, dry, rocky soils. Little to no pruning is needed. No fertilization is generally needed. The soft, silvery-grey foliage and wide-spreading, vase-shaped form make Grey Owl one of the most ornamental red cedar selections. Largely pest- and disease-free. A rugged, attractive native evergreen for challenging sites.
