Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil amended with generous amounts of compost. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Space 15–20 feet apart. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch 3–4 inches deep, keeping mulch well away from the trunk.

Water deeply and regularly the first 2–3 seasons. Once established it tolerates moderate drought. Little pruning is needed- remove dead or crossing branches in late spring after flowering. Avoid heavy pruning. Fertilize lightly in spring with an acid fertilizer. The profuse, multi-petaled pink flowers in early spring are exceptionally beautiful and produced while the tree is still young. Largely pest-free. A truly outstanding small flowering tree.
