Birds Nest Spruce

Plant in spring or fall in moist, well-drained soil, spacing 4–5 feet apart. Birds Nest spruce is a slow-growing, dwarf Norway spruce with a distinctive, flat-topped, nest-like form created by a natural depression in the center of the plant. Dig the planting hole to the same depth as the root ball, water thoroughly, and mulch well. Keep consistently watered through the first growing season.

No regular pruning is needed — the naturally compact, nest-shaped form is self-maintaining. Remove any dead branches in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist. Apply a light balanced fertilizer in spring. Birds Nest spruce grows very slowly and is extremely long-lived, becoming more attractive over the years. An excellent, distinctive dwarf conifer for rock gardens, foundation plantings, and specimen use in small spaces.
