Planting and Care Guide

Planting Tips

Plant in spring or fall in acidic, moist, well-drained soil in partial shade. Mountain Fire is one of the most spectacular andromeda varieties, featuring intensely bright red new growth in spring that is as vivid as any flower — providing a dramatic early-season display before the foliage matures to glossy dark green. Amend soil with peat or acidic compost if needed. Set root ball at or just above grade and mulch deeply.

Care Tips

Minimal pruning is needed. Remove dead wood after flowering. Feed with an acid fertilizer in early spring. Keep soil consistently moist. The brilliant red new growth in spring is the primary ornamental feature — one of the most vivid spring foliage displays of any shrub. Replenish mulch annually. All parts are toxic if ingested. Mountain Fire is one of the most impressive and rewarding acid-loving shrubs for spring color.
